Motorist towing a trailer causes thousands of dollars in damage to EV charging station in Agassiz

AGASSIZ – Upper Fraser Valley Mounties say a motorist towing a trailer last week turned near a charging station and struck it on Pioneer Avenue in Agassiz, causing significant damage to the public infrastructure.

According to a statement from RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, police received a report of damage to an electric vehicle charging station on Pioneer Avenue. While police say it’s unclear whether the driver who was towing a trailer was aware of the damage, the incident caused thousands of dollars worth of repairs.

Due to the quality of available video footage, no licence plate was obtained and the vehicle has not been identified.

The incident was one of 84 calls for service the Agassiz RCMP detachment received for the week of Monday, Apr. 6 through Sunday, Apr. 12.

In other notable incidents this past week in and around Agassiz, several proactive impaired‑driving investigations were conducted by officers over the past week:

An officer conducting patrols on Lougheed Highway witnessed a motorist fail to stop at two separate stop signs. During a roadside stop, the officer grew suspicious that the male driver was impaired. The driver refused to comply with roadside breath testing, and an immediate roadside prohibition (IRP) was issued. The vehicle was subsequently impounded.
