BOSTON BAR/HOPE – Mounties with the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment say several property crimes have been reported over the past week, including a theft of expensive helicopter parts and damage estimated at thousands of dollars to an electric vehicle charging station in Boston Bar.

According to a weekly recap from UFVRD spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, multiple crimes occurred during the week of Monday, April 6 through to Sunday, April 12.

In one incident, copper wire was stolen from a construction site on Water Avenue in Hope.

Just north of Hope, a vehicle was damaged at Lake of the Woods after unknown suspects attempted unsuccessfully to gain entry.

Farther north in the Fraser Canyon, two catalytic converters were stolen from an unattended vehicle along Highway 1 near Boston Bar.

And in Boston Bar itself, helicopter parts of significant value were taken from a private property in Boston Bar. Additionally, cable was severed from an EVO charging station in Boston Bar, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.

In other notable incidents this past week:

An RCMP member witnessed a vehicle driving eastbound through Laidlaw that had significant damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. Police initiated a traffic stop and determined the woman driver was on her way to Mission but couldn’t explain why she was heading in the opposite direction. Cpl. Kiener says the woman was exhibiting signs of impairment and issued a 24 hour driving prohibition. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver will need to have a mechanical inspection of the vehicle completed to determine whether it is safe to operate on the roadway.

Police responded to a report from a concerned passerby regarding a man swinging a stick on Wallace Street. Officers located the man, who is well known to police. He was aggressive toward officers and intoxicated. The man was arrested and held in custody until sober to prevent further public disturbance.

Police received a report of a man discharging a firearm into the air while yelling at a neighbour in Boston Bar. The man left his residence but was arrested upon his return. The firearm was seized. Further investigation revealed the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant, and he was held for court. The investigation into the firearm‑related offences remains ongoing.
