Masked males deploy pepper spray during attempted robbery at Maple Ridge mall: RCMP

MAPLE RIDGE – Mounties in Maple Ridge say two masked male suspects deployed pepper spray after attempting to rob a Maple Ridge business at a shopping mall on Lougheed Highway Monday afternoon.

According to a statement from police, Maple Ridge RCMP learned of a robbery in progress at about 5 p.m. Monday (Apr. 7) in the 22700 block of Lougheed Highway. Frontline RCMP members immediately attended the area and learned that two masked male suspects had entered the shopping centre before attempting to rob the business.

Police say the males were interrupted by security before deploying bear spray and leaving the area. Police contained the scene prior to reviewing video surveillance and speaking with witnesses to identify possible suspects.

Emergency health services also attended the scene and provided aid to bystanders affected by the bear spray. No further injuries were reported.
