Snow and slippery conditions close Coquihalla Highway east of Hope

HOPE — The Coquihalla Highway was closed overnight between Hope and Merritt after heavy snow blanketed the region Wednesday night.
DriveBC says the highway was closed around 9 p.m. due to a vehicle incident, adding that commercial trucks were being stopped for failing to be properly equipped with snow chains.
According to social media reports, a number of trucks were spinning on the highway due to the slippery conditions.
Environment Canada says 25 cm of snow fell over the highway overnight. While highway crews are actively working to clear the road, another 10 cm of heavy wet snow is forecast before conditions begin to improve late this morning.
