Progress on Vedder-South Sumas intersection marked by slight delays
CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack wrote in its monthly transportation newsletter Friday (Dec. 2) that it is progressing on improvements to the heavily traveled intersection of Vedder Road and South Sumas Road in Sardis.
“Crews finished taking out trees so we can widen the intersection,” the city wrote. “The next step is for B.C. Hydro, Telus, and Shaw to move their utility poles.”
According to a project timeline on the city’s website, pole relocations will occur between November and February 2023, with drainage and roadwork to begin in early spring 2023. It is anticipated that construction will wrap up in April.
So far the project calls for a traffic signal expansion and approximately 260 meters of road widening along with paving, drainage, streetlights, curb and sidewalk.
