UPDATE, 8:05 P.M.: Power restored to over 575 Chilliwack customers after outage Thursday afternoon

UPDATE, 8:05 p.m: Power has been restored to the 580 customers in Sardis who lost power at 3:39 p.m. Altogether, their power was out for at least four hours.

CHILLIWACK – Over 575 electric customers in Sardis have lost power Thursday afternoon.

According to BC Hydro’s online dashboard, 580 customers near Knight Road and Evans Road, as well as the Luckakuck Way area west of the Cottonwood Centre mall, lost power at 3:39 p.m.

The affected area encompasses an area west of Vedder Road, east of Evans Road, and south of the highway.

Crews are on site as of. 7:50 p.m. BC Hydro’s website was last updated at 6:42 p.m.

The cause is under investigation.

Another 300-plus customers have lost power in the Morris Valley Road corridor that leads to the Sts’ailes First Nation band west of Harrison Hot Springs. Their power went out at 4:11 p.m. Thursday. Power is expected back by 6:45 p.m. for those 313 customers.

Crews are already on site there. The cause is a downed tree across hydro wires.

Heavy winds have been walloping the eastern Fraser Valley for most of the day. Gale-force wind gusts of up to 90 km/hr were expected in the Hope area today.
