CHILLIWACK – Mounties in Chilliwack are appealing to the public for help in locating a suspect who broke into a parkade on Cook Street and stole a mobility scooter earlier this week.

According to a statement of confirmation from RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, the incident happened Tuesday morning (Feb. 24) between approximately 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Cook Street.

The suspect left the area heading toward Reece Avenue.

A social media user first reported the incident online.

“We had our parkade broken into and a small tan mobility scooter was stolen and the charger for the big one,” the anonymous Facebook user wrote. “I can (sic) believe this lowlife would steal someone’s ability to get out and do the things they need to, grocery shop, dr appointments etc. Looks like he’s sporting a nice scooter!”

Police have corroborated those statements made online.

“I can confirm this incident occurred on Cook Street and it has been reported the same way it is described in the social media post,” Cpl. Kiener said  “We obtained the photo of the suspect as depicted and are actively trying to identify the man.”

Police are asking the public to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 if anyone recognizes him.
