CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson says firefighters were called to a fire near the former Business Centre at Young and Princess early Thursday, and later located a second fire nearby.

According to a statement from Wilson, Chilliwack firefighters were dispatched for a reported structure fire at 5:30 a.m. in the 9200 block of Young Road. The first batch of responding fire crews observed a small fire on the exterior of the commercial style building. Firefighters extinguished that small fire. Wilson says the building sustained minor smoke, water and fire damage.

Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock told Fraser Valley Today she saw smoke coming from the rear of the former Downtown Business Centre building, and took several pictures and videos of the firefighter response.

Assistant Fire Chief Wilson says while crews conducted a 360-degree survey of the building, they discovered a second fire on the exterior of an adjacent building in the 46000 block of Princess Avenue. Crews called in additional resources and extinguished the second fire in the commercial/residential mixed use building. Wilson says the building suffered moderate fire, smoke and water damage.
