ABBOTSFORD — A dump truck that crashed on Highway 1 in Abbotsford this past Friday has been deemed unfit to operate on provincial roads until it undergoes a full inspection due to mechanical issues.

According to a statement from BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Corporal Michael McLaughlin, police were called to a single-vehicle crash on westbound Highway 1 on Friday (Feb. 13).

There were no injuries associated with the incident and impairment is not suspected, Cpl. McLaughlin said.

However, the dump truck and its pup trailer were issued Notice and Orders indicating they had mechanical issues and were not fit to be on the road, Cpl. McLaughlin said.

He added that the truck and trailer cannot be insured and returned to the road until all defects are fixed and they each pass a full inspection.

Commercial truck safety has emerged as a public safety concern in the Fraser Valley, given just how many drivers and operators do not maintain their vehicles.
In late December 2025, the Township of Langley says its bylaw enforcement members teamed up with partner agencies in 2025 to issue more than 500 tickets to unsafe or noncompliant commercial vehicles.

The township says its bylaw enforcement personnel worked with area agencies to make area roads safer by repeatedly inspecting big rigs, identifying safety violations and ensuring compliance.

The municipality says bylaw members collaborated as part of joint enforcement operations with partner agencies, resulting in 598 inspections, over 500 tickets issued and over 300 commercial vehicles placed out of service.

Here’s a breakdown of what 16 joint force operations with partner agencies accomplished in 2025 in Langley Township:

  • 598 inspections of commercial vehicles
  • 178 Township of Langley bylaw tickets issued
  • 327 tickets issued by other agencies
  • 311 vehicles placed out of service due to critical safety risks
  • 33 vehicles towed on the spot due to serious mechanical or safety concerns

“These enforcement efforts are identifying issues like overloaded vehicles, faulty equipment, and other unsafe practices,” the township said.

The township says the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement program will continue to adapt in the coming year amid more planned joint operations, education for commercial drivers, and data-driven deployment to keep Langley Township roads safe for residents, businesses, and visitors.
