CHILLIWACK — A respected and celebrated tradition of the Christmas season returns for another glorious performance courtesy of the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra and its talented musicians and soloists.

The Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra Baroque Ensemble, Belle Voci and professional soloists will present Handel’s Messiah, conducted by Paula DeWit, on Friday, December 9 through Sunday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

St. James Catholic Church in Abbotsford is the nearest venue for Chilliwack residents. It will host the Messiah performance on Friday, December 9, while Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver will be the venue on Saturday, Dec. 10, and Fleetwood Christian Reformed Church in Surrey is the host venue on Sunday, Dec. 11.

This best-loved oratorio includes favourites such as “Hallelujah” and “The Trumpet Shall Sound.” Together they present this glorious oratorio, a musical rite of the Christmas season.

“One of the special challenges in performing Messiah year after year is to keep the work sounding fresh, as if one had just discovered it,” conductor Paula DeWit said. “Those in attendance can expect to hear a more detailed, articulate style and quicker tempos based on Baroque dance rhythms and speech patterns.”

Four amazing soloists, Colleen Donnelly, Shane Hanson, Jonny Michel, and Dave Rosborough, will perform. Each venue has stunning aesthetics and beautiful acoustics, DeWit said.

Tickets are for sale at chilliwacksymphony.com. All concerts start at 7:30 and are $40 per person.

And after a three-year hiatus, the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, along with its professional soloists, will present a modern version of Handel’s Glorious Messiah at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Friday, December 16.
