Original story from 5:35 p.m. Friday:

CHILLIWACK – An air ambulance has landed at the Chilliwack Airport Friday evening after emergency responders raced to the Cottonwood Centre mall for the report of a vehicle versus a pedestrian.

According to scanner traffic, and the Pulse Point app, first responders were notified at approximately 4:15 p.m. about a pedestrian being struck near London Drugs at the mall, 45585 Luckakuck Way.

There were no indications of entrapment per scanner traffic.

Multiple Chilliwack RCMP members, Chilliwack firefighters and BC EHS paramedics responded to the mall.

Once on scene, they located a patient lying on the ground.

They huddled together in the aftermath of the incident in front of Kin’s Farm Market, likely to interview any witnesses and talk to any other involved parties.

After discussion among firefighters, paramedics and dispatch through radio communications (scanner traffic), first responders decided on the Chilliwack Airport as the preferred landing zone. Abbotsford was briefly mentioned as a possible landing zone or destination for the helicopter.

As two ambulances waited to conduct a handover, an air ambulance landed at the Chilliwack Airport at approximately 5:01 p.m.

The patient’s condition is not immediately known.

The helicopter reportedly left Chilliwack Airport at approximately 6:13 p.m., according to a Chilliwack resident who lives down the road from the airport.

BC Emergency Health Services released a statement Friday evening saying a patient had been airlifted to hospital, but did not provide any information about the patient’s condition while being transported, as they normally do.
