CHILLIWACK — B.C.’s River Forecast Centre has issued a high streamflow advisory for parts of the province ahead of expected rainfall this weekend.

The advisory is in place for the Lower Fraser and its tributaries along the northern Fraser Valley, as well as the South Coast.

A frontal system bringing moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to impact the south coast of British Columbia on Saturday, February 7.

The agency says current weather forecasts indicate an estimated 30 to 60 millimetres of rainfall, with some models predicting over 100 millimetres.

Additional runoff is expected in higher-elevation areas still experiencing snow.

“Stay safe in and around rivers through the region,” said the Centre. “Be prepared for challenging driving conditions and potential road washouts and check local conditions on DriveBC.ca. Never drive through flood waters or across road washouts.”

Levels are set to peak Saturday or into Sunday morning.

Updates will be provided as needed.
