CHILLIWACK — Flanked by the RCMP Honour Guard and Provincial Court Judge Kristen Mundstock, Chilliwack City Council members were sworn in during a formal ceremony Tuesday night (Nov. 1) at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

Local officials from City of Chilliwack, Chilliwack School District, Cultus Lake Park Board, and Chilliwack Fire Department gathered amidst a festive atmosphere in which all six council members and Mayor Ken Popove formally took the oath of office for a four-year term.

The 30-minute gathering featured a beautiful singing of O Canada by singer Adrienne Reitsma and a rousing performance from piper Kendal Clarke, followed by a post-event performance from pianist Stuart Young, who entertained scores of attendees in the foyer of the Cultural Centre after the proceedings.

With Judge Mundstock standing directly next to them holding the declaration, Council members Jason Paul Lum, Sebastian Christian Kloot, Nicole Susan Read, Jeffrey Edward Shields, Gary Russell “Bud” Mercer, and Anthony Harvey “Harv” Westeringh each affirmed that they, among other things, did not contravene the Local Government Act, or engage in intimidation or vote-buying.
