G.W. Graham overpowers rival W.J. Mouat in 48-16 win Friday at Exhibition Stadium

CHILLIWACK — In a battle for first-place supremacy in the Eastern Conference, the second-ranked G.W. Graham Grizzlies left nothing to chance in the second half to pull away from W.J. Mouat in a 48-16 win Friday night at Exhibition Stadium.

G.W. (4-1) looked polished offensively when it raced to a 14-0 first quarter lead, before the two teams traded touchdowns in the second quarter. The Hawks converted a pair of two-point conversions but trailed 28-16.

In the second half, G.W. took over by making adjustments to slow the Mouat offense.

The Grizzlies offense was balanced with 3 TDs by air and 4 TDs on the ground. QB Lucas Feaver took charge with 17-of-27 passing for 228 yards and 3 TDs. His primary targets were Tyson Oregaard (5 receptions, 50 yards and 2 TDs), Braeden Macdonald (5 catches,, 68 yards), Christian Beck (6 rec, 61 yards), and Carter Dallas (2 rec, 43 yards, 1TD).

RB Maleky Colgiu was a bulldozer on offence with 12 carries for 101 yards and 2 TDs. Aiden Hewitt and Yapo Conteh added touchdowns on the ground for the Grizzlies.

Defense was again led by superstar defensive end Vincent Branauer with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Branauer applied constant pressure and forced numerous hurried throws and incompletions. Defensive tackle Tyler Bergin added 4 tackles and a sack while safety Carter Dallas had 4 tackles.

“The Hawks came in and gave us a tough game,” defensive coordinator Ian Parks said. “We were forced to make some adjustments at halftime but these guys executed very well in the second half.”

The Grizzlies take on the Sardis Falcons in the battle of Chilliwack next this Friday, November 4 at Exhibition Stadium to end the regular season. With the win against Mouat, the Grizzlies secured first place in the Eastern Conference and a bye to advance them to the second round of the playoffs.
