CHILLIWACK — This is not your ordinary Halloween house display.

Not only have does Kipp Manor at 45512 Kipp Avenue in Chilliwack have its own Facebook and Instagram page, April Blais and her family collect food donations for the Salvation Army Community Food Bank.

“We bring [the donations] to the local Salvation Army food bank after Halloween is done,” Blais said. “Last year we had my entire truck bed full of food donations as well as few hundred dollars if I remember correctly.”

Blais and her family have been building and exhibiting their Halloween display for over a decade now. When they moved to Chilliwack two years ago, they had no plans to give up the family tradition.

“We lived in Abbotsford up until we moved here in 2020 when we bought our first house,” Blais said. “Last year we decided to create our walk-through experience for people to enjoy. Last year was also our first year of collecting food bank donations at Halloween. Prior to that we had only collected donations with our Christmas displays and to our surprise we received far more donations at Halloween than at Christmas.”

Blais says her family’s Halloween display will be up and running all weekend and on Halloween from noon until 10 p.m., complete with between 30 and 40 strobe lights and two fog machines each night, unless it’s raining. A rainfall warning is in the forecast for Chilliwack starting late Saturday night, so be sure to check it out if and when it’s dry.

“We are so glad that people are enjoying our display,” Blais said. “That’s exactly why we do it. We are also very grateful to the community for their generosity with all the food bank donations.”
