Chilliwack RCMP investigating reports of tampered Halloween candy
CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment says police are investigating reports that Halloween candy distributed to trick-or-treaters had been tampered with or contained sharp objects.
According to a brief statement from Chilliwack RCMP Sgt. Alexandra Mulvihill, police have an open file into allegations made by various Chilliwack residents that Halloween candy in their possession contained sharp objects like pins or nails.
“Yes, we have an open file for this. The Officer has taken statements and seized the candy and wrappers to be examined by our forensic identification section,” Sgt. Mulvihill said. “I do not have a timeline for their exam and report.”
Social media lit up Friday night in Chilliwack Facebook groups, including Chilliwack Beware Crime and Safety and Chilliwack Moms, when people posted pictures purporting to show sharp objects inside packaging and chocolates.
