CHILLIWACK – Fire officials in Chilliwack say one person is confirmed deceased after a fire broke out at a home in the 9800 block of Young Road Friday afternoon.

According to a statement from Trevor Kirkpatrick, Assistant Chief of Operations for the Chilliwack Fire Department, firefighters from Halls 1, 4 and 6 were called to the 9800 block of Young Road at approximately 2:15 p.m. for a reported structure fire.

On arrival, crews located a working structure fire and received reports that someone might still be inside the residence.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and located an individual inside the home.

Sadly, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene, Kirkpatrick confirmed.

“The Chilliwack Fire Department extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the individual who lost their life. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic incident,” said Andrew Brown, Fire Chief, Chilliwack Fire Department.
