CHILLIWACK – Global BC now projects that Chilliwack North incumbent MLA Heather Maahs has won the Chilliwack North riding, as of 9:01 p.m.

With 25/77 polls reporting at 9:01 p.m., Maahs leads with 7,069 votes, or 58 per cent of the vote, outpacing her NDP opponent, Adila Shaukat, who has 4,000 votes, or 33.4 per cent. Dan Grice of CentreBC is trailing in third place with 912 votes, or 7.6 per cent.

Maahs, a former Chilliwack school board member of over 15 years, won the riding handily in October 2024 by a nearly 17-point margin. The NDP candidate, the late Dan Coulter, received roughly 37 per cent of the vote two years ago while Grice, as an independent candidate, earned 2.3 per cent of the vote.

According to the BC NDP website, Shaukat is a community advocate, scientist, and a proud mother of three. She holds a Ph.D in evolutionary biology from Imperial College in London.
