Online sellers robbed, assaulted in Abbotsford parking lot during sales transaction

ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say an unknown number of victims were robbed and assaulted by a buyer during a sales exchange in an Abbotsford parking lot Sunday night.

In a statement, the Abbotsford Police Department says its officers responded to the 3100 block of Mt. Lehman Road at 8:47 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, after receiving a report of a robbery in a nearby parking lot.

Police say the victims had arranged to sell an item to an unknown individual they met through an online marketplace. The parties mutually agreed to meet in a public parking lot to complete the transaction.

During the meeting, police allege the suspect assaulted the sellers, stole the item, and fled on foot.

Officers responded immediately and, with the assistance of a Police Service Dog, conducted a track in an attempt to locate the suspect. Unfortunately, officers did not locate the suspect.

The victims suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

This investigation remains active and ongoing. AbbyPD is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information related to this robbery to contact police.

“AbbyPD also reminds community members that our Safe Exchange Zone, located at AbbyPD Headquarters, is available for anyone buying or selling items through online marketplaces,” police said. “The designated area is well-lit, under video surveillance, and intended to make transactions safer.”
