2 homes destroyed by Boston Bar fire; homeowner cooperating with RCMP investigation

BOSTON BAR – A spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment says police are investigating a residential fire that destroyed two homes in Boston Bar earlier this week.

Spokesperson Cpl. Carmen Kiener Boston Bar were notified at 1:51 a.m. Tuesday morning (Sept. 22) about a structure fire at a home on Old Boston Bar Road. By the time officers arrived, Cpl. Kiener says the fire had grown significantly and spread from the original residence to a neighbouring home.

Occupants of both residences were safely evacuated, and police initiated additional evacuations of nearby homes as a precaution, Cpl. Kiener said.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., embers from the fire are believed to have caused a separate fire involving a rail tie pile near Railway Avenue, which was extinguished by the fire department.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, both residences were destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The homeowner of the original residence where the fire first started is cooperating with the investigation, Cpl. Kiener said.

At this time, after an assessment of the scene and pursuing other avenues of investigation, criminality is not believed to be a factor in the fire.

The investigation remains ongoing in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
