Police seize airsoft guns after weapons call in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford have taken two fake guns after a concerned resident reported an individual who appeared to be open-carrying one last night (Sept. 19).

At around 7:35 p.m., patrol officers responded to the weapons call in the 3100 block of Station Road for someone who had a handgun tucked into his waistband.

Attending officers then found the man near Fraser Highway and 273rd Street and discovered two airsoft guns instead – one in the individual’s waistband and another inside a briefcase on his person.

The man received a violation ticket for open liquor, and both airsoft guns were seized.

“When officers respond to reports of a firearm, they must treat it is real until they can safely take possession of it and determine otherwise,” said the Abbotsford Police Department.

“Reports of someone carrying what appears to be a gun in public often result in a significant police response to ensure public safety. Carrying or displaying replica, imitation, or airsoft firearms in public creates unnecessary risk for everyone involved.”

AbbyPD is reminding residents that airsoft guns are designed to closely resemble real firearms and must never be carried or displayed in public.
