Intermittent street closure on weekdays starts today for Chilliwack road near 2 schools

CHILLIWACK – Intermittent weekday road closures lasting a month are now in effect for a key arterial near two schools in Chilliwack.

As part of the Sardis-Vedder Trunk Sewer Project, the City of Chilliwack says South Sumas Road between Reid Road and Wiltshire Street will experience intermittent full-road closures starting today (Thursday, Sept. 17) through to October 16, on weekdays.

Before 9 a.m., South Sumas Road between Reid and Wiltshire will remain open.

From 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., there will be a full road closure.

From 1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m., the road will remain open, which will assist parents coming to pick up their kids from nearby Vedder Middle School since it dismisses at 2:30 p.m., as well as Sardis Secondary, which dismisses at 2:51 p.m.

From 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., the road will be fully closed.

The sidewalk on at least one side of the road will be open during the road closure.
