Senior clocked driving almost 2X the speed limit says they needed to go to the bathroom: AbbyPD

ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department says a traffic officer has stopped a local driver who was caught travelling nearly double the posted speed limit near a school zone this week.

Around 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, the officer clocked a vehicle aggressively passing other motorists and driving 98 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on King Road near Bradner Road, in a construction area right by a school zone.

The 65-year-old driver was stopped before they could enter the nearby school zone at almost 100 km/h, and when asked why they were travelling so fast, AbbyPD says they stated, “they needed to get to a bathroom.”

“There is never an excuse for placing other road users, pedestrians, or children at risk through excessive speed,” said AbbyPD. “School zones are designed to protect some of our most vulnerable community members, and speed limits exist for a reason.”
