Jet ski users fined at Cultus Lake, paddleboarders without safety equipment returned to shore: RCMP
CULTUS LAKE – Authorities handed out fines of nearly $300 apiece to a jet ski operator and the owner of a jet ski for unsafe activities, and directed over a dozen paddleboarders without safety equipment back to shore during the Labour Day long weekend.
According to a statement from Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener, RCMP members and Transport Canada personnel conducted proactive vessel inspections and compliance checks at Cultus Lake throughout the weekend.
In one incident, a jet ski operator received a $288 violation ticket for operating at excessive speeds within 30 metres of shore.
In another occurrence, a jet ski owner was handed a $288 violation ticket for allowing an unlicensed individual to operate their personal watercraft after officers observed an unsafe operation near the Jade Bay boat launch. The unsafe operation created hazardous conditions for boaters using the launch.
