“Over the past 12 years on Council, I have had the privilege of working alongside so many incredible people and being part of the growth and changes in our community. I hope that through those years of service, I have earned the trust and confidence of the people of Agassiz,” Spaeti said. “This community is home. It’s where I grew up and where I have raised my family, and I would be honoured to continue giving back in this next stage of my service to our community. I look forward to listening, working together, and helping build a strong and positive future for the District of Kent.”

One of the major issues impacting the District of Kent is the opening of the $26 million Lets’emot Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre. The District of Kent will be increasing non-resident user fees to cover-off and offset its taxpayers subsidizing public recreation facilities for residents of nearby Harrison Hot Springs. To date, the Village of Harrison Hot Springs has not agreed to what the District of Kent calls an “equitable” financial plan to share capital contributions and operating funds for the new aquatic centre, according to a recap dated August 17, 2026, from the District of Kent.

Despite a resolution made by Harrison Hot Springs council on February 13, 2025, the District of Kent says it has not received any financial approval for a proposed $1.85 million capital contribution and the annual operating contribution of approximately $100,000 that would support a regional partnership for the pool. For nearly a half-century, Ferny Coombe Pool had been Agassiz’s destination for summer days, swim lessons, competitions, family memories and countless cannonballs.
