Chilliwack seeking candidates for 2026 municipal election

CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is advising residents who are considering a run for local office of the rules they’ll need to follow to get on the ballot.

Residents can seek election as mayor, councillor, park commissioner or school trustee in the 2026 general local election. The election is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026. One mayor, six councillors, two park commissioners and seven school trustees will be elected.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old on general voting day, be a Canadian citizen and have lived in British Columbia for at least six months immediately before filing nomination documents. They do not have to live or own property in the local government where they are seeking office.

Nominations will be accepted from September 1 at 9 a.m. to September 11 at 4 p.m. at Chilliwack City Hall.
