Two Chilliwack motorists lose their vehicles for doubling the posted speed limit

CHILLIWACK – Two Chilliwack motorists learned the hard way last week that there’s a price to pay for driving twice the posted speed limit.

Members of the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP’s Traffic Unit say they witnessed several incidents of excessive speeding in Chilliwack last week.

One person was clocked at 99 km/h in a posted 50 zone on Promontory Road.

Another motorist was observed driving 100 km/h in a 50 zone on Evans Road.

Police say both drivers received $368 tickets and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.

“Every day, police see the consequences of unsafe driving. A few seconds saved is never worth the risk,” Upper Fraser Valley RCMP said. “Slow down. Drive safe.”

Police couldn’t track down a motorist involved in the most glaring example of excessive speed, however. One motorcyclist was clocked at an astonishing rate of 247 km/h in a 50 zone on Evans Road.

Police say officers were not able to safely engage with the rider due to the extreme speed.
