Pesticide Use Permit issued for Invasive Knotweed Control

Permit Holder:  Ministry of Environment and Parks, Environmental Disaster Operations Team. PO Box 9337 Provincial Government, Victoria BC V8W 9M1

Permit #: 925-0002-26-29

Contact: sec.info.epd@gov.bc.ca

Purpose:  A Pesticide Use Permit (PUP) was issued for the purpose of controlling knotweeds species (Reynoutria spp.) within the Pesticide Free Zone (PFZ), along the shorelines of Legace Creek, Eng/McNab Creek, North and South Herford Creeks, Allen Lake, roadside and agricultural ditches and other pluvial flow potential sites within the Hatzic Valley, representing an approximate area of 40 hectares. Knotweeds are provincially designated Noxious Weeds under the BC Weed Control Act.

Under the PUP the following herbicides are approved for use: Habitat Aqua (PCP # 32374), adjuvant Aquasurf (PCP # 32152), and Roundup WeatherPro (PCP # 33653).  Habitat Aqua applications will target foliar application by backpack-mounted sprayers annually. If plants cannot be effectively treated by foliar spray methods, stem injection of Roundup WeatherPRO may be required. The addition of drift shielding may be used to prevent contact with surrounding non-target vegetation.

We anticipate this year’s application to be early September. Subsequent years will be determined on the effectiveness of treatment. This PUP is valid for 3 years, and completion of treatment is anticipated to be September 2029.
