Petition launched to save 36-year-old family restaurant in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD — Community members have now launched a petition in hopes of saving a well-loved local restaurant from an expiring lease by the end of the month.

Roseland Family Restaurant recently announced that, after more than three decades, it will be closing its doors as the owners were unable to secure an extension of the current lease.

“This is not the way we hoped our journey would end,” wrote the establishment. “Roseland Restaurant has been so much more than a restaurant, it has been a place for celebrations, family meals, morning coffees, special occasions, friendships, and countless memories.”

A petition to preserve “36 years of Community History” has since been launched, asking the property owner or landlord to reconsider their decision not to extend the lease and allow Roseland to continue operating at its current spot.

It calls for an opportunity for Roseland to negotiate a new lease or an extension, a willingness to work together to find a solution, and consideration for the “thousands” of customers, staff, and families who hold the place dear.

Roseland has been serving Abbotsford since 1990. If the community plea is unsuccessful, the restaurant is set to close on August 30 at 2 p.m.

It is located at 33550 South Fraser Way, in the South Fraser Plaza.

We have reached out to the restaurant for comment.
