Thief drives away from Abbotsford police, gets caught next day anyway

ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department is recommending “a slew” of charges against a 30-year-old man after a recent theft from a local business.

The suspect and his accomplice were seen leaving a parking lot in the 1900 block of Vedder Way after committing a theft from a nearby retailer late last month.

AbbyPD’s Street Outreach Response Team then spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver chose to speed away instead.

Officers did not chase after them, but continued trying to find the suspect.

The Jeep involved was found and seized the next day, and the suspect was identified.

“In Abbotsford, criminal activity comes with real consequences,” said AbbyPD. “If you choose to use your vehicle to commit crimes, expect it to be seized as offence-related property and expect to face criminal charges. Our officers are committed to identifying offenders, disrupting criminal activity, and holding those responsible accountable.”

The man is now facing numerous charges, including theft, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and various other breaches of previous conditions.
