Canadian Kayla Cross eliminated from National Bank Open
TORONTO — Another Canadian is out of the National Bank Open after Kayla Cross fell 7-6 (2), 6-3 to American Ann Li in Toronto on Wednesday.
Cross fired three aces across the one-hour, 27-minute match, but saved just three of seven break points.
The 21-year-old from London, Ont., shocked many at the tournament on Monday, upsetting Britain’s Katie Boulter 7-6 (3), 7-5 to earn her first WTA victory.
She is the latest Canadian to fall at the hard court tournament, following early exits by Katherine Sebov, Rebecca Marino and 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu.
