CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack-area firefighters have been activated to assist with the battle against three raging wildfires in the Fraser Canyon near Boston Bar, B.C.

The latest wildfire near Hells Gate, B.C., has grown from 300 hectares yesterday to 1,000 hectares as of Wednesday morning. The Brunswick Complex comprised of the Brunswick and Ainslie Creek wildfires was nearly 22,000 hectares as of Wednesday morning.

Due to the rapidly-evolving fires, members of the Chilliwack Fire Department have been once again deployed to support wildfire suppression efforts near the evolving fires near Boston Bar.

“We’re incredibly proud of these firefighters who have stepped forward to assist,” the Chilliwack Fire Department said. “Their willingness to leave home, work in challenging conditions, and support British Colombians reflects the very best of the fire service. While their focus will be on protecting lives, property, and communities, ours will be supporting them from home. Please join us in wishing our crew safe travels, safe deployment, and a safe return home. Thank you for your service and commitment. We are proud to have you representing Chilliwack.”

Similarly, the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department says it has deployed its crews in response to an aid request from the BC Wildfire Service.
