Blueberry mishap creates another traffic jam deemed ‘not berry funny’ in Mission: RCMP

MISSION – For the second time in roughly a year, a massive blueberry spill has created a sticky situation in Mission.

Mission RCMP Corporal Harrison Mohr says police were called to the Horne Street overpass on Thursday afternoon, July 16, after a number of crates full of blueberries spilled out onto the roadway.

Fraser Valley Today readers may recall that on July 9, 2025, Mission RCMP notified the public about an incident where a farmer’s load of blueberries spilled onto Lougheed Highway, creating quite a sticky situation.

In the most recent incident from last week, a witness reported the matter after seeing a motorcycle go “slip-sliding” through the mess, while other vehicles turned the matter into a very juicy incident indeed.

“An officer attended and spoke with the truck driver, who was trying to clean up the spilled fruit, before the berries turned the stretch of roadway into a fruit-fly-freeway,” Cpl. Mohr said. “The driver blamed other farm workers for improperly loading the crates, but the officer reminded the man that as the driver, he was ultimately responsible for ensuring his cargo was properly tied down.”

The driver received a ticket for operating with insecure cargo, and a road maintenance crew was called to finish the clean-up.

“Fortunately, no one was injured by the spill, the roadway was thoroughly cleaned up, and after a jam-packed shift, the officer ended his day feeling like he had had a rather fruitful afternoon,” Cpl. Mohr said. .
