CHILLIWACK – Roughly a year after a devastating fire in downtown Chilliwack damaged several nearby buildings and impacted its operations, a Chilliwack restaurant is set to reopen its doors.

E. Yong Oriental Restaurant, located at 45861 Wellington Avenue, says it will officially reopen next week Wednesday, July 22 following last year’s fire in which it sustained smoke and water damage.

The fire on July 16, 2025, destroyed Beautilandia, a beauty supply store, and rendered the former Chilliwack Community Policing Services building inoperable, requiring its relocation to the Chilliwack RCMP headquarters on Airport Road.

The restaurant posted at least three signs over the past year about its ongoing progress.

The first sign read, “On July 16th (2025) there was a building fire two doors next door and we sustained smoke and water damage. Currently, we are undergoing repair and renovations. We apologize for the inconvenience,”

A second sign later stated: “To our dear customers, we have almost completed renovations, and are planning on re-opening mid-July to late July (2026), we will let you know once we have an exact date. Hope to see you all soon!”

The most recent sign provided the most heartwarming update: “We are excited to announce that we will reopen on Wednesday, July 22nd. We hope to see you all soon.”

E. Yong Oriental Restaurant offers beef and chicken noodle soup, wonton soup, vermicelli noodles, special rice dishes, lunch and dinner combinations, just to name a few. It has been in business since 2001.
