IIO seeks more witnesses for fatal December collision in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — B.C.’s police watchdog is continuing to investigate the extent of or lack of RCMP involvement in the pickup truck collision that claimed one life in December 2025.

Shortly after 10:15 p.m. on Boxing Day, a white Ford truck hit a power pole near the intersection of Yale and Banford Roads and was pronounced dead on scene.

The RCMP told Fraser Valley Today at the time that the incident did not result from a police chase, and the IIO was not notified.

However, on December 29, the IIO launched an investigation after receiving public tips.
