Ainslie Creek wildfire in the Fraser Canyon now tops 8,800 hectares

FRASER CANYON/BOOTHROYD – The BC Wildfire Service now reports that the Ainslie Creek wildfire has ballooned from 694 hectares on Tuesday to over 8,800 hectares Wednesday morning.

According to the latest data from the BC Wildfire Service as of 7:31 a.m. Wednesday morning (July 8), the out of control wildfire north of Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon is now 8,816 hectares.

The fire was first discovered on Saturday, July 4. It remains out of control.

An incident management squad is managing the Brunswick Complex.

Approximately 160 firefighters, 12 helicopters, 23 pieces of heavy equipment, and 58 structure protection personnel are assigned to the Brunswick Complex.

BCWS says bucketing helicopters worked on multiple areas of elevated fire activity on both the Ainslie Creek wildfire (8,816 hectares) and the Brunswick Creek wildfire (2,594 hectares).

Ground crews are responding to these fires, supported by heavy equipment who are establishing access south of the fire. Structure protection has been put in place on structures in the valley below this fire, BCWS says.

There are three power outages in the area of the two Fraser Canyon wildfires affecting about 220 customers.

There are five evacuation orders and two evacuation alerts in place for the Fraser Canyon.
