FRASER VALLEY – People in the Fraser Valley are more than willing to open their wallets to satisfy their sweet tooth and support a great cause, based on the record-breaking results of a recent community initiative

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation says the weeklong Smile Cookie campaign from April 27 to May 3 brought in a record-breaking amount for local health care thanks to the generosity of people in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Mission and Hope, and the support of Tim Hortons franchises locally.

Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation was selected as the charity of choice by 21 stores within the Fraser Valley, including Mission, Hope, Rosedale and Abbotsford, raising an outstanding $87,764.06, the highest amount raised in British Columbia.

Smile Cookies are signature Chocolate Chunk Cookies hand-decorated with pink and blue icing to create a smile. Store owners selected the local charities they wished to support.

Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation promoted the campaign on social media and through local media channels, encouraged pre-sales to their network, and sold cookies in the Abbotsford Regional Hospital atrium. They visited local stores to decorate cookies and hosted a kick-off celebration at Abbotsford Regional Hospital featuring local Timbit hockey players.

“We are incredibly proud of our teams and community to be able to raise this amount for an amazing foundation and have the funds directly help within our communities,” a local store owner shared.

Prior to the recent week-long campaign, Tim Hortons said previous Smile Cookie efforts had raised over $151 million since 1996.

“The annual Smile Cookie campaign is a powerful reminder of what community truly means. For the past 30 years, Tim Hortons restaurant owners, team members, and guests have come together to create real change for people right in their own neighbourhoods,” said Axel Schwan, President of Tim Hortons. “With nearly 700 local charities and community groups supported this year, the reach of this campaign has never been greater.”

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for essential equipment and programs endorsed by Fraser Health, serving the communities of Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, Hope, Agassiz, and Harrison Hot Springs.
