PITT MEADOWS — The other half of the former Ridge Meadows RCMP detachment has recently celebrated its own opening ceremonies in Pitt Meadows.

Roughly 75 people attended the official move into the Pitt Meadows RCMP’s central location behind City Hall on Harris Road, including council members for the City and q̓ic̓əy̓ First Nation, Public Safety Minister Nina Krieger and MP Marc Dalton.

“This modern, purpose-built space will support our officers and the important work they do every day,”  said Pitt Meadows Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “These advancements lay the foundation for a safer, more connected and resilient community, now and for the future.”

The new 19,000-square-foot facility includes state-of-the-art equipment, a dedicated ground-level flex space and a training room with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The ceremony began with a traditional welcome from q̓ic̓əy̓ Chief Grace George and q̓ic̓əy̓ Councillor David Kenworthy, followed by flag-raising, cake-cutting and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

“It’s been many years since the last new detachment was opened in the Lower Mainland District and the RCMP is proud to continue serving Pitt Meadows and q̓ic̓əy̓ through detachment operations and our LMD Integrated Teams,” said Lower Mainland District Commander Elija Rain.

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows RCMP officially transitioned to two fully autonomous detachments on April 1, concluding a de-integration process that began in 2021.
