FRASER VALLEY — The B.C. government is marking five years of funding Vision Zero projects with a new round of grants in the region.

Communities in the Fraser Valley have received a total of $90,000 for road safety upgrades this year.

These include traffic-calming projects in Chilliwack, pathway designs on North Parallel Road in Abbotsford, safe access to the ts’lhimexósem trail in Sq’ewqéyl First Nation, streetlights and bike lanes on Sumas First Nation roads, and accessibility improvements in Pitt Meadows.

More than $3.8 million has been committed to the program across the province since it began in 2021.

“Over the past five years, we’ve seen the impact of local, community-driven solutions making a real difference, especially in Indigenous, rural and remote communities,” said Josie Osborne, minister of health. “This year’s investments build on that progress, helping more communities take practical steps to keep people safe.”

The program is delivered through regional health authorities and is administered by the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit.

Thirty-three communities received the grant this year.
