Alert citizen tips off Abbotsford Police, leading to recovery of more than 20 stolen catalytic converters
ABBOTSFORD – An alert member of the community is being credited after notifying Abbotsford Police about a suspicious man who appeared to be cutting catalytic converters near Whatcom Road and Highway 1 Tuesday afternoon.
AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says police were dispatched to Whatcom/Hwy. 1 Tuesday after a resident notified something that didn’t seem right. The caller told police that the man had been cutting catalytic converters from vehicles in the area, prompting police to arrive within six minutes of the call.
Police were able to locate the suspect and make an arrest. Sgt. Walker says over 20 catalytic converters were recovered, criminal charges are in progress, and the vehicle was seized as offence‑related property.
“A big thank you to the citizen who trusted their instincts and took the time to call—your quick action made a real difference and helps keep our community safe,” Sgt. Walker said.
