ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford are appealing to the public for witness descriptions and more information after the driver of a Hyundai SUV allegedly fled one crash scene and struck a tree at a park on Old Yale Road last week.

According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, patrol officers were dispatched for a two-vehicle collision last Thursday, Apr. 9 at 4:45 p.m. on the eastbound Highway 11 off-ramp at Old Yale Road.

While officers were en route to that call, AbbyPD was advised that one of the vehicles, a blue Hyundai SUV, had fled the initial crash at a high rate of speed. The blue Hyundai SUV continued eastbound on Old Yale Road where the driver crossed into incoming traffic, left the roadway, and crashed into a tree in Crossley Park.

Emergency first responders arrived and located three occupants in the SUV. Surprisingly, none of the occupants sustained serious injuries, but they were transported to hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the original collision was not injured.

Sgt. Walker says the investigation remains in its early stages. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed either collision, or who was in Crossley Park at the time the SUV entered the park and struck the tree, to come forward and speak to police. Anyone with dash cam footage from the area at the time of the incident is also asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.

The AbbyPD file is 2026-14972.
