CHILLIWACK – The City of Chilliwack now anticipates that reconstruction on a primary arterial through Sardis could get underway in just a matter of months.

On its website, the City of Chilliwack says the Watson Road reconstruction project between Tyson Road and Vedder Road will provide a safe pathway for active transportation users and improve traffic flow and safety.

More specifically, the public works project consists of the following improvements:

  • Roadway widening to include a new centre turning lane.
  • Curb, gutter and roadway paving.
  • A multi-use pathway on the north side and a sidewalk on the south side of Watson Road. Both will be separated from vehicle traffic with landscaping and street trees.
  • Street lighting.
  • Drainage and sanitary works.
  • Crosswalk and transit stop improvements.
  • Signage and road markings.

It says the project also entails improvements to the sanitary system to ensure reliable service that will better meet the city’s needs.

Construction is expected to begin in early summer.

The city says the project is currently in the procurement process to secure a contractor for the design and construction of the project.
