Original story below from 7:29 a.m. Wednesday morning:

CHILLIWACK — An SUV struck an apartment complex on Mary Street Tuesday evening, prompting a quick response from Chilliwack firefighters, paramedics and RCMP members.

According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack Fire Department crews were dispatched at about 6:11 p.m. for the report of a vehicle that struck an apartment.

A Fraser Valley Today reporter visited the scene and witnessed what appeared to be a Ford Flex-type vehicle encroaching into a ground floor unit at 9091 Mary Street. There appeared to be some structural damage to the ground floor unit it impacted.

As light rain fell, multiple first responders surrounded the vehicle. Slick road conditions may have contributed to the crash as it was dark around the time of the crash.

Yellow police caution tape was strung across the lawn of the apartment building as RCMP investigated. Although Wally’s Towing did attend, the vehicle was not immediately removed from the building Tuesday evening, with one Mary Street resident telling FVT the vehicle remained there overnight.

Fraser Valley Today has reached out to the Chilliwack RCMP for comment on the status and/or condition of the driver.
