Chilliwack home where police incident occurred no stranger to bylaw complaints, as registered owners live out of town

Yellow police tape was strung outside the home Monday morning, after what multiple people say were sounds of possible gunshots. According to two people in one Facebook group, there were gunshots heard between approximately 4:30 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. Monday, followed by a heavy police presence. One Facebook commenter said her husband heard five gunshots at 4:40 a.m. Fraser Valley Today has obtained additional screenshots from multiple residents who reported hearing gunshots and then seeing multiple police officers in the vicinity of the Kent Road home. The yellow police tape was reportedly removed around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

The home appears to be the same one where a previous incident involving shots fired occurred in February 2023. In that incident, nearby residents described hearing gunshots and seeing police vehicles in and around the home, located at the corner of Kent Road and Fairwood Drive, as well as arrests.

In response to the report of gunshots Monday morning, one resident of the area wrote on Facebook that the Fairfield Island community was once an amazing neighbourhood “until you’re woken up to gun shots multiple times within recent months.” The resident said, “Luckily, no stray bullets have found there (sic) way to our home but it’s frustrating to have to worry about my family’s safety every night we go to bed.”

Another resident expressed concern online about the safety of children passing to and from Strathcona Elementary in the area, given the incidents that have occurred, while another Facebook user said the home has become a “nightmare” ever since the previous owners sold it. Other Facebook users who live nearby voiced similar concerns online.

Several residents have written on Facebook that they plan to contact Chilliwack council and Mayor Ken Popove about the ongoing issues with the home.

Fraser Valley Today has obtained a state of title certificate that shows the registered owners of the Kent Road home are Hardeep Singh Brar and Mandeep Kaur Brar from Surrey.

A Fraser Valley realtor who spoke to Fraser Valley Today on the condition of anonymity said the Kent Road home was purchased in late 2021, renovated, and then listed for sale, but the property did not sell.
