CHILLIWACK — Like many lottery winners, Chilliwack resident Aidan Beacock was taken aback when he first got the news that he won a sizeable prize from the Lotto Max draw earlier this month.

“I was at the gas station, and I thought I won $500,” recalled Beacock. “I was shocked at first, it was unbelievable!”

The Chilliwack resident checked his ticket using the self-scanner at the Petro Canada on Fraser Highway and Lefeuvre Road in Abbotsford and learned he was the lucky winner of the $500,000 Extra prize from the July 12, 2024 Lotto Max draw.

Apart from telling a co-worker, Beacock shared the news of his win with his mom. “She was shocked and happy!”

Beacock is still taking it all in while he decides what’s next, but does plan to invest some of his winnings. He says he is also excited to travel and hopes to visit Bora Bora this winter.

On how it feels to win?

“Happy! Excited! It’s just so unbelievable – it feels surreal.”

Beacock purchased the winning ticket at the Petro Canada station on Pemberton Portage Road in Pemberton.

So far in 2024, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $18 million in winnings from the Extra prize and more than $54 million from Lotto Max. The Extra is a $1 add on game available to purchase with Daily Grand, Lotto 6/49, BC/49 and Lotto Max at any BCLC lottery retailer, or at PlayNow.com.
