CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack RCMP were dispatched Tuesday after a dump truck reportedly struck a hydro pole on Hope River Road east of Fairfield Island.

According to scanner traffic Tuesday morning, Chilliwack firefighters were called to the 47400 block of Hope River Road at about 11:09 a.m. after receiving a report that a dump truck struck a utility pole on Hope River Road.

Firefighters told dispatch shortly thereafter that the hydro pole was sheared off and leaning, and that BC Hydro would need to be notified.

The utility pole didn’t lead to an immediate power outage in the area, but BC Hydro posted at approximately 12:45 p.m. that a power outage in the area impacted 358 customers. Power has since been restored to those impacted customers.

Fraser Valley Today visited the area of the crash and witnessed a hydro pole on the north side of the road leaning, just as firefighters had told dispatch. No vehicles were able to get through the area as first responders impeded access from both sides.

Two RCMP units remained on scene as of 12:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. A single fire engine and a tow truck were stationed on the west side of where the accident occurred, while an RCMP vehicle blocked access coming from the east.
