LANGLEY — Langley RCMP arrested a suspect following a series of carjackings and collisions Saturday (Jul. 5). The incident began when multiple calls reported a carjacking in the 20200 Block of 64 Avenue.

A female victim told police she was assaulted as she exited her vehicle. The suspect then took her car and drove off erratically. A short distance away, the stolen vehicle was involved in a three-car collision at 200 Street and 64 Avenue.

After the crash, the suspect exited the stolen vehicle and attempted to carjack other vehicles but was unsuccessful. He then fled the area on foot. A short time later RCMP received a report of a stolen 5-ton truck from the area of 196 Street and Willowbrook Drive. Multiple 911 calls reported the same truck driving dangerously and erratically.

The crime spree ended in the 7200 Block of 200 Street, where the stolen truck collided with several parked vehicles. A Langley RCMP officer intercepted the truck, disabling it by making contact with the front wheel. The suspect was immediately arrested as he exited the vehicle.

33-year-old Edward Joseph Biwer of Surrey, has been charged with several offenses, including one count of robbery, two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, one count of mischief, one count of assault, one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of driving while prohibited, and one count of failure to stop after an accident.

“The coordinated response by front-line officers, along with numerous 911 calls from the public, allowed police to apprehend the accused in a timely manner,” said Cpl. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP.

Police are asking anyone with footage from dash cameras, cell phones, or surveillance videos related to this incident to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 and quote file 2024-21188.
