MISSION — The City of Mission presented its Waterfront Revitalization Master Plan at the “Le Marché International Des Professionnels de L’immobilier 2024” (MIPIM), a week-long conference held in Cannes, France earlier this month (March).

The yearly event provides a platform for innovative and sustainable projects all over the world, promoting waste minimisation, inclusivity and positive social impacts. This year, the summit hosted more than 20,000 delegates, with over €4 trillion of assets managed by investors attending.

The Mission delegation was awarded an exhibition space and free attendance to the conference by the Economic Development Association of Canada and the Canadian Deputy Director of the MIPIM, who labelled the project as “Canada’s most outstanding investment opportunity, 2023.”

Mission Mayor Paul Horn, said there’s global interest in projects like the Waterfront Revitalization Master plan. “We took away important lessons for how we can work with landowners and stakeholders to market these lands and to incorporate environmental and social elements that will make the project appealing to investors,” said Horn.

The mayor also mentioned the feedback and interest gathered at the event was positive, as the delegation answered questions and engaged in dialogue about investing in Mission. “We are better prepared for our next steps, which will include connecting property owners to the marketplace,” said Horn. “We met with investors and international realtors who want to interact directly with landowners in the area.”

The Waterfront Revitalization Master Plan is a strategic plan for a large community development project focused on recovering and rebuilding an underdeveloped area of the Fraser River.

According to the City, a 3.5 km stretch will be repurposed into a “world-class waterfront, designed to carefully balance residential development with commercial, industrial and institutional development.”

Initiated in 2020, the long-term master plan is now at the start of its implementation, with an aim to grow and develop over the next 40 years.

The details of the waterfront plan are laid out on the City of Mission website.
