Weapons, contraband seized at Mountain Institution in Agassiz

AGASSIZ — Staff have completed a lockdown and search at Mountain Institution, a medium-security federal prison in Agassiz.

Correctional Service Canada says a lockdown and exceptional search that began on June 26 has yielded several contraband items at the facility, including homemade weapons, two cell phones and cannabis concentrate.

Normal operations and visits have since resumed.

CSC says it is boosting measures and working with police to prevent more unauthorized items from entering its institutions.
