CHILLIWACK — Multiple emergency responders were dispatched Wednesday night (Mar. 27) after 9:30 p.m. for a two-car crash on Teskey Way near Russell Road in Promontory.

According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack Fire Department personnel were called to an area near the 5600 block of Teskey Way in Promontory after two vehicles collided.

Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson of the Chilliwack Fire Department said fire crews performed an extrication on one of the motorists involved in the collision, and referred a media inquiry to the Chilliwack RCMP as they are typically the lead on motor vehicle accidents.

Chilliwack RCMP blocked the east and west ends of Teskey Way during the aftermath of the incident.

The Chilliwack RCMP released a statement Thursday morning advising that drivers from both vehicles suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital by ambulance.

“On March 27, 2024 at 9:35 p.m., the Chilliwack RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision…in Teskey Way, Chilliwack, BC,” Chilliwack RCMP said. “First responders including RCMP, Chilliwack Fire Department and BC Ambulance Services immediately attended. Drivers from both vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to hospital by ambulance. The Integrated Collision and Reconstruction Analyst Section attended to examine the scene which resulted in the closure of Teskey Way for several hours. Teskey Way has since re-opened and the cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Chilliwack RCMP Municipal Traffic Section. Initial reports indicate speed may have been a factor.”

One of the two vehicles is reported to be a Honda-type vehicle. One person wrote on Facebook that he witnessed a Honda-type vehicle swerving repeatedly before the accident.

“I was driving behind the Honda, she swerved into the oncoming lane and head on collision…as she was swerving all the way up Promontory,” the Facebook user stated.

The official cause of the two-vehicle crash remains under investigation. Police have not publicly substantiated any observations or statements from users on Facebook, other than to say initial reports indicate speed may have been a factor.

A few residents living near the accident scene wrote on social media that they heard the crash quite loudly. The area where the crash occurred is densely populated with a 32-unit strata complex just to the north of Teskey Way on Hudson Road, and a 50-unit strata complex just south on Russell Road.

A picture taken by a nearby resident shows the front end of a Honda CRV-looking SUV completely mangled and crumpled.

Teskey Way near Russell Road remained closed for several hours overnight due to the crash, but has since reopened.

BC Emergency Health Services confirmed that three of its ambulances responded Wednesday night.

“BC Emergency Health Services received a call at 9:33 p.m. last night (March 27, 2024) for a motor vehicle incident in the 5600-block of Teskey Way in Chilliwack. Three ambulances attended the scene. Paramedics provided emergency medical care and transported two patients to hospital,” says BCEHS spokesperson Bowen Osoko.
